AI Policy CISN

Concordia International School Ningbo (CISN) AI Use Policy

Purpose: The purpose of this AI Use Policy is to ensure the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) within Concordia International School Ningbo (CISN). This policy aligns with the IB Programme Standards and Practices and complements the school’s existing Technology Use, Academic Integrity, and Staff Development policies. It seeks to leverage AI to enhance educational outcomes while maintaining academic integrity and respecting data privacy.

Scope: This policy applies to all students, teachers, and staff at CISN who use AI tools and technologies in educational and administrative contexts.

Principles:

1. Enhancing Learning and Teaching:

• Integration with Curriculum: AI tools should be used to support the inquiry-based learning framework of the IB PYP, MYP, and DP programs. These tools can assist in differentiating instruction, providing personalized feedback, and enhancing student engagement.

• Teacher Support: AI can be used to streamline administrative tasks, allowing teachers to focus more on instructional activities. Teachers should be trained how to use AI tools effectively and ethically, ensuring they complement, not replace, traditional teaching methods.

2. Upholding Academic Integrity:

• Ethical Use: AI should support, not substitute, student learning. Students are encouraged to use AI tools for research, study assistance, and skill development. However, using AI to generate assignments or plagiarize is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a violation of the Academic Integrity Policy.

• Transparency: Students and teachers must clearly identify when AI tools have been used in the preparation of assignments or instructional materials. This transparency is critical to maintaining academic honesty.

3. Data Privacy and Security:

• Compliance with Regulations: All AI tools used at CISN must comply with data protection laws and regulations. This includes ensuring that any data processed by AI tools is secure and used solely for educational purposes.

• Student Data Protection: Teachers must ensure that student data used in AI applications is anonymized where possible and is not shared with third parties without explicit consent.

4. Professional Development:

• Ongoing Training: CISN will provide regular professional development opportunities to ensure that teachers and staff are equipped with the necessary skills to use AI tools responsibly. This includes understanding the ethical implications of AI in education and staying updated on the latest advancements in AI technology.

• Collaboration and Sharing: Teachers are encouraged to share best practices in using AI across the school. This collaboration will help to build a cohesive approach to AI integration in the curriculum.

5. Responsible Use by Students:

• Educational Purpose: Students should use AI tools to enhance their learning and should not rely on these tools to complete assignments without understanding the material. The use of AI should be guided by the principles outlined in the Academic Integrity Policy.

• Monitoring and Support: Teachers will monitor the use of AI in student work to ensure it is being used appropriately. Where necessary, additional support will be provided to help students use AI tools effectively.

Implementation and Monitoring:

1. Integration with Existing Policies:

• This AI Use Policy is linked with the Technology Use Policy, Academic Integrity Policy, and Staff Development Policy. It should be read in conjunction with these documents to ensure a holistic approach to the use of technology at CISN.

2. Review and Updates:

• The AI Use Policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant in the rapidly evolving field of AI. Feedback from the school community will be considered in these reviews.

3. Communication:

• This policy will be communicated to all members of the CISN community through the school’s website, newsletters, and training sessions.

Cost Implications:

• The cost of AI-related professional development, as well as the acquisition and maintenance of AI tools, will be considered in the school’s annual budget. Teachers enrolling in specific IB training programs, such as "Making the PYP Happen" and "Leading an IB Education," should also factor in the associated costs.

This policy ensures that the integration of AI at CISN is aligned with the school’s mission to provide a high-quality, internationally-minded education while upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and data privacy.
