IB-PYP PROGRAMME

IB-PYP is an interdisciplinary international education programme that aims to cultivate well-rounded talents with global vision and intercultural communication skills. At Concordia, the G4 language teaching is based on the concept of the new curriculum standards, integrating the IB-PYP theme "Who we are" and adopting a large-unit task-based teaching method, in which tasks related to the content of the unit are set on the basis of the teaching of the text.

Firstly, from the perspective of the beauty of nature, students are guided to explore issues such as the relationship between self and nature and how to protect the natural environment. 

Secondly, using the picture and words strategy, children can visualize the images as they read and experience nature for themselves. 

Finally, based on a whole topic, we issue an extended task for the children: recommending good weekend trips to the people around them through social platforms.

HOW CAN YOU LEARN TO USE

PICTORIAL STRATEGIES？

Firstly, open up the five senses, cultivate sensibility, and fully feel the world. Sensibility, not only essential in reading, is equally important in writing.

Language teachers Brian He and Grace Liu used four sub-tasks to link up the whole unit of study: 

Task 1 - Viewing Natural Beauty; 

Task 2 - Building up Rich Imagination; 

Task 3 - Our Planet Goes Green;

Task 4 - Recommending a Good Place to Go.

It is easy to see that "task-based unit teaching" is a student-centered mode of teaching and learning characterized by strong integration, a large time span, and distinct levels of knowledge. This gradual and progressive implementation pathway has a well-implemented strategy of contextualization, scaffolding, and task-based unit integration.

Against the backdrop of a globalized vision, it is vital to learn the language well and create roots in China. At Concordia, we always insist on cross-disciplinary innovation and integration, and dig deep into the core qualities of our students, so that they can consolidate their subject knowledge, deeply appreciate their connection with nature, and grow and develop more holistically.
