KINDERGARTEN

Concordia International School Ningbo (CISN) Kindergarten program applies principles of both Project Based Learning and the Reggio Emilia methodology. This combination of pedagogies creates a holistic approach to child development. CISN's philosophy during the early years is to view children as capable individuals, able to construct and drive their learning. CISN's qualified and  experienced teachers act as collaborators and help students reflect on their play and project work to deepen the learning experience. We call this "enhanced play."

Curriculum

Children at CISN learn through a rotation of themes, which are organized into six transdisciplinary areas based on the IB-PYP framework:

  • Language

  • Social Studies

  • Mathematics

  • Science & Technology

  • Arts

  • Personal, Social and Physical Education (PSPE)

As well as enhanced play, CISN emphasizes literacy and the diversity of the world, including The People's Republic of China. Kindergarten children will explore the world using English and Chinese languages.

Throughout the year, CISN's teachers receive ongoing professional development from universities worldwide, ensuring learning is evidence-based and up-to-date.

Learning Environment

Teachers create contexts and activities to stimulate and stretch children's curiosity by fulfilling their need to explore and experiment in a safe and caring environment. This is the foundation for intellectual, physical, and social-emotional development, that will drive our goal of implementing the IB approach to education in Ningbo. The class numbers are small, allowing the teachers to get to know each child and their needs, giving plenty of time for individual attention.

At CISN, the beautiful, state-of-the-art classrooms support our curriculum and create learning opportunities. The classrooms are a multisensory environment for enhanced play, where students will engage in a wide range of experiences and projects to support intellectual and social-emotional development. Many indoor and outdoor spaces are provided for learning and playing, and are designed specifically to ensure that children build deep relationships with the natural world:

  • Mini aerial playground

  • Multi-functional outdoor playground

  • Sand pits, water-play area, slides, seesaws, climbing wall, wooden house, mini garden.

  • Indoor activities areas & dedicated rooms: atelier, mini kitchen, reading corners, rhythm & movement room, construction center, STEM lab, Chinese culture room and more.
