Youth π Program 1 | Growth Records of Union Students

30 May 2025

Growth is a journey of being true to oneself. As Nietzsche said, "Become who you are." Today, let's hear the stories of four Concord students - from their first steps in kindergarten to preparing to spread their wings in high school. These authentic moments of self-discovery and perseverance will ultimately weave into life's most beautiful poetry.

CISN-K  Nora

Transformation | Persistence | Devotion

I'm not afraid to be on the stage, and I won the award!

I'm Nora from K2. My teacher says I'm a bright and curious girl who loves exploring the world!

I used to be very shy, always hiding behind my parents like a little chick. But this time, to prepare for the "Star of Hope" English competition, I decided to be brave! Every day after school, I practiced in front of the mirror—working on my pronunciation, expressions, and movements. Mom said I was as busy as a little bee! Finally, on competition day, I stood on stage without any fear—and guess what? I won third place in Ningbo City!

I love playing piano and painting! Every day I practice "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on the piano. Sometimes I make mistakes, but I keep trying! At kindergarten, art class is my favorite. When I hold my paintbrush, I forget everything else! I love painting the sun, little fish, and rainbow houses...

Mom says I'm a hardworking little star, and Dad is so proud that I'm no longer scared during competitions. My teachers always say, "you're improving every time!" What I love most is the me right now - because every day I'm growing just a little bit stronger. I'm Nora from K2, and I'll keep working hard to grow up!

CISN-P  Fitz

Transformation | Passion | Competition

Whether stopping hockey pucks or turning pages, every effort counts toward becoming your best self.

Hello everyone. My name is Fitz. I’m from CISN Grade 2. Today, I’m going to share what I have improved and developed.

A year ago, I didn't read much and needed reminders from my parents. But everything changed after I gave a speech on stage - I discovered how fun reading is! Now I read everywhere: at restaurants while waiting for food, and sometimes in the car (just not too often). Books have become my new adventure!

I love hockey just like my parents! Starting as a skater at age 5, I soon became a goalie. The best feeling is making great saves with my team. I've earned special jerseys and MVP awards - like at the Jiaxing Tournament and Hong Kong's Hockey5's tournament (Asia's biggest!). Hockey trips give me the most amazing experiences!

I've learned that whether it's stopping pucks or turning pages, every effort counts toward becoming the best version of myself. So, let's keep reading, keep playing, and keep making memories!

CBSN  Yoyo

Discipline | Competition |  Dream

My dream is to become a storytelling diplomat...

I'm Yoyo, 9 years old. English is my favorite subject. I still remember my first SPBCN spelling competition in first grade—I was as nervous as a "little scatterbrain"! But I never gave up. Working as hard as a busy bee, I won the city's third prize in second grade, and this year, I proudly became the Ningbo City champion! Holding that trophy made my heart burst with fireworks of pride!

Last summer, I competed in the "Diplomacy New Force" contest as the youngest participant. Delivering speeches and answering questions in English, I won second place. These experiences lit up my heart like stars, showing me I'm braver than I thought.

My dream is to be a diplomat who tells great stories! Wearing smart suits, I'll make friends worldwide with my English and help the world understand China better. Right now I'm like a little seed growing slowly. But if I keep trying and working hard, one day I'll shine bright as the best Yoyo ever!

CISN-S  Amanda

 Programming | Discovery | Innovation

To all girls: Don't be limited by gender labels.

Many think coding is just for boys, but I've found my spark in this world of logic and creativity!

In 4th grade, Scratch fascinated me like magic - seeing characters move by my commands. When I advanced to C++, English code and complex logic challenged me. To master concepts like knapsack and red-black trees, I'd sit for hours debugging. Once, I spent all night fixing hundreds of lines until finally - success at 11pm! The joy made it all worthwhile.

Persistence pays off! I've won city gold medals and provincial awards - shiny badges of my growth. People ask, "Isn't C++ harder than fun Scratch?" I say coding is like climbing a mountain: Scratch is the flower-filled base, and C++ the misty peak. Every solved problem brings such pride that all the effort becomes worthwhile.

I'm still adventuring through the world of code. Here's what I've learned: programming isn't about "girl" or "boy"—it's about passion and perseverance. Those first challenging steps? They lead to a universe where anyone can create something extraordinary. The keyboard doesn't care who types—only what brilliant ideas you bring.
